Appeals

Students who fail to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards at the end of their annual payment period (Fall-Spring / Spring-Fall) will have their remaining aid terminated. They will not be eligible for any future financial aid. Students will be notified via U.S. mail and/or email of their status.

If special circumstances such as illness, injury, death of a family member, or other extenuating circumstance prevent you from meeting SAP requirements, the termination of your eligibility may be appealed by submitting an Appeal for Financial Aid Reinstatement form and supporting documents to the Financial Aid and Academics Dismissal Appeals Committee within two weeks of receiving notification.

As part of the appeals process, you are required to explain why you failed to meet SAP requirements and what has changed that would allow you to meet them at the next evaluation. Supporting documentation must be included with your Financial Aid Reinstatement form. Appeal approvals are not applied retroactively after a semester has concluded.

Appeal approvals may result in Financial Aid Probation or require an academic plan to place you on track for successful program completion. Academic plans are determined based on the student’s situation and where they need to be at the end of the following semester.  Financial Aid Probation appeal approvals will allow you an additional semester of aid eligibility, while academic plans would be required if you are conditionally approved for subsequent academic periods.

For student’s that are denied upon appeal, there are a few different avenues to re-establish aid eligibility.  Meeting the minimum standards is one such path.  The other suggestion is to pass additional classes either here or at Indiana Tech as part of a future appeal.
