SEVIS Check-in

New students starting their first semester at Indiana Tech

All new students with initial I-20 or transfer students (F1 status) starting with Indiana Tech are required to complete mandatory SEVIS Check-in during orientation week. We will collect your current U.S. address and contact phone number which are required for us to register you in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).

WHY?

  • This process is mandatory to maintain legal status in the United States. Federal laws and regulations require nonimmigrant student information to be updated and maintained in SEVIS.
  • Homeland Security asks all F-1 students to be enrolled full-time in order to maintain F-1 status. Completing your SEVIS Check-In confirms that you are engaged full time in the program of study for a specific session.
    • UG students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in a semester.
    • GR students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in a semester.
  • Failure to be registered in SEVIS will cause the student’s legal status in the U.S. to be terminated.
  • A terminated SEVIS record will prevent a student from working in the U.S. on campus and off campus, getting a driver’s license, transferring to another school, and re-entering the United States. It may result in immediate departure from the U.S.

SEVIS Check-In must be completed on no later than 30 days after the start of each session.

HOW?

IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR SEVIS CHECK-IN DURING YOUR FIRST WEEK AT INDIANA TECH, PLEASE COME IN TO THE INTERNATIOAL ADMISSIONS OFFICE ASAP AND WE CAN HELP YOU! FAILURE TO DO THAT WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION OF YOUR IMMIGRATION RECORD!
