Indiana Tech Law School Launches New Flex-Schedule Program

January 28, 2015

Indiana Tech Law School has launched a new, flexible enrollment option, entitled Tech Law Flex, allowing students to continue their careers and work full time while going to law school. Attending classes on a flex schedule allows would-be lawyers to complete their legal education in as few as nine semesters of study, taking an average of 10 credits a semester. Working students enrolled in Tech Law Flex will attend daytime classes at the law school.

Working students enrolled in Tech Law Flex may study Indiana Tech Law’s traditional first-year curriculum over two years, then expand their knowledge with its upper-level curriculum, designed to enhance students’ practice skills while preparing them for success on the bar. The flexible nature of the program allows students as few or as many classes as they like, up to twelve credit hours per semester, so long as they complete their law degree within seven years of beginning it.

Jessica Lynn Glassburn, assistant dean for law admissions, notes, “Since Indiana Tech announced the opening of the law school, we have received interest from many potential students seeking options for law school that will allow them to keep their jobs. With our new flexible enrollment program, the many advantages of our hands-on, skills based curriculum are available to students who prefer to keep their jobs while attending school. We see this option as ideal for a wide range of potential students – those who have some flexibility in their working hours, or who work at night, are self-employed, or have similar situations.”

Four members of the fall 2014 entering class are currently enrolled in the pilot version of the Flex program.  When asked why he chose Tech Law Flex for his legal education, Flex student Colin Keeney offered, “Because I live and work in Fort Wayne as an employee with the City of Fort Wayne, traveling to any other campus to pursue my law degree would have been too time-prohibitive.  Tech Law Flex allows me to successfully pursue my law degree in a vibrant, experiential-based program. The Flex program has allowed me to enjoy the same classes, rigorous debates, and lively discussions as the full-time students, all while giving me the flexibility to maintain my current career.”
