Communication professor Wireman earns 2023 Leepoxy Award for Teaching Innovation
August 29, 2023Dr. Alicia Wireman, associate professor of communication, was named the winner of Indiana Tech’s 2023 Leepoxy Award for Teaching Innovation.
Dr. Wireman received her award during Indiana Tech’s convocation ceremony on Aug. 29. During the presentation, she was recognized for:
- Expanding our communication degree so that students can major in journalism and broadcasting, sports media or graphic design
- Developing new certificate programs in sports media and graphic design
- Providing outstanding internships and capstone projects for students each semester in communication and digital design
- Organizing the university’s annual student speech competition
- Leading a graphic design project that tasked students with designing car wraps for Indiana State Police
“Indiana Tech’s College of Arts and Sciences is so blessed to have Dr. Wireman serve in so many ways in our college. She is a role model to others for how to grow a program that is well-connected to industry,” said Dr. Anne Gull, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “She is also a great role model to students. As a lifelong learner herself, she continues to educate herself with the latest trends and technology in the communication field so she can share these with her students.”
The Leepoxy Award for Teaching Innovation was established in 2008 by community supporter and owner of Leepoxy Plastics, Larry Lee. It is given annually to a full-time faculty member who:
- Challenges students to continuously progress to higher levels of thinking
- Engages students in active learning activities
- Connects to students in innovative ways to positively impact their experiences at Indiana Tech
