C3 to Host WarriorHack Hackathon as Part of Tech Weekend

January 28, 2015

Indiana Tech’s Center for Creative Collaboration (C3) will play host to the inaugural WarriorHack, a 24-hour marathon where developers, coders, designers and young entrepreneurs will collaborate to build amazing products and solve challenging problems presented by area companies and non-profits. The event will take place from 6:00pm February 20 to 6:00pm February 21 as part of a weekend-long series of tech events on the Indiana Tech campus.  WarriorHack will be held in the Indiana Tech Academic Center, with participants working round the clock.

Participants in the hackathon will include students from Indiana Tech and other universities, as well as area information technology and programming pros. WarriorHack will start with presentations from area organizations seeking to solve a problem or meet an opportunity, after which participants will form teams based on which challenges they wish to work on. At the end of the 24-hour hackathon, teams present their solutions with cash prizes of $1,000 for the first place team, and $500 for second.

Area groups presenting their problems and opportunities at WarriorHack will include Science Central, Utopian Coffee, the Allen County SPCA and others. The presenting sponsor is AT&T, with additional sponsors including SquareMouth and the C3. The cost to participate is free, with the C3 providing work space, food and drinks to participants throughout the hackathon. Interested participants can sign up online at www.theC3.com/warrior-hack. Participants must bring their own laptops to work on their projects.

Mark Richter, executive director of the C3, commented, “The students helping organize WarriorHack have dubbed it “24 hours of amazing.” We’ve got participants signed up from places like Rose-Hulman and the University of Illinois, and as far away at Penn State. The coders, designers, developers and entrepreneurs who participate will have some challenging problems to solve in just 24 hours, projects offered up by area companies and organizations. Events like this foster innovation in our community, which is one of the driving reasons why we created the C3 here at Indiana Tech. With support from sponsors like AT&T and SquareMouth, WarriorHack promises to be an annual must-attend event for area tech aficionados and entrepreneurs alike.”

In addition to the WarriorHack, the weekend will include the Indiana Tech Engineering and Computer Sciences (ITECS) tech-centered career fair hosted by Indiana Tech’s Career Center from 1pm-4pm on February 20, and the ITECS Technology Conference from 9am-7:30pm on February 21. The ITECS Conference features guest speakers and breakout sessions, including Dave Francher of Infinite AI; Dave Giard of Microsoft; Jon Fazzaro and Eric Potter of Aptera; and Keith Thompson and Gale Shafer of SquareMouth.
