Let’s Get IT Started: New-Student Orientation

Your move toward a successful and fulfilling collegiate experience at Indiana Tech begins with new-student orientation. During this time, you are going to meet fellow students, get to know faculty and staff and learn about all the resources that are available to help you thrive while you are here. New-student orientation is the beginning of of your college journey, which will mold and shape so many things including coursework, experiences, decisions you make, and interactions with friends and mentors.

But first, Indiana Tech would like to thank you for choosing our university to be your university. Everyone here is committed to fulfilling the tenets of our university’s mission statement, which are:

Friday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 20: Indiana Tech’s first-time new students will learn about the Tech student experience, meet with deans and faculty within your college,  as well as make connections with other students. These orientation days are essential in launching your Indiana Tech experience and acclimating to the campus climate. Not to mention, there will be a lot of fun to be had.

Move-In Schedule / Instructions:

Indiana Tech Fall 2023 Move-In Schedule

  • Key pickup for new students during move in will be located in the Abbott Welcome Center (clock tower building). Returning students will pick up their keys from Andorfer Commons at the Student Affairs Suite.
  • If you need to arrive outside of the designated times, please contact residencelife@indianatech.edu prior to your arrival. Students should not arrive prior to their scheduled date without approval but you may arrive after your date during one of the time blocks if necessary.
  • Carts and volunteers will be available to assist you with the move-in process during Friday’s move in.

The following schedule for arrival is in place for the fall of 2023.

Athletic teams or other designated groups/individuals required to arrive early for preseason training or due to University request is limited and is communicated through your coach or staff member.

Dining service will begin for residential students with dinner on Friday, Aug. 18. Dining will provide brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday and three meals daily Monday through Friday. All menu items and venues may not be open at once and a schedule of availability will be communicated. Full service and regular hours will begin with breakfast on Monday, Aug. 21.

2023 Move-in Map for 8/18

Pierson Center – Red Line, Kalbfleisch Hall* – Blue Line, Oropeza – Orange Line

The following instructions are for students arriving on Aug. 18. Check in first at the Abbott Center to pick up your keys then follow the map and driving directions below:

If you will live in Pierson Hall, please follow the RED path on the map. Turn left off E. Washington Blvd. onto Schick St. and go to the Pierson Hall check point (see the red star on the map). You will check in there and be directed where to go next. Volunteers with carts will be available at the unloading area to assist with moving your belongings into your room. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the unloading zone and move it from the unloading zone once all of your belongings are moved to your room. It is recommended you not enter Schick St. from the Maumee Ave. side.

If you will live in Kalbfleisch Hall, please follow the BLUE path on the map. Turn right off E. Washington Blvd. onto Walter St. and go to the Kalbfleish Hall check point (see the blue star on the map). You will check in there and be directed where to go next. Volunteers with carts will be available at the unloading area to assist with moving your belongings into your room. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the unloading zone and move it from the unloading zone once all of your belongings are moved to your room.

If you will live in Oropeza Hall, please follow the ORANGE path on the map. Turn left off E. Washington Blvd. at Indiana Tech campus entrance 1 and go to the Oropeza Hall check point (see the orange star on the map). You will check in there and be directed where to go next. Volunteers with carts will be available at the unloading area to assist with moving your belongings into your room. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the unloading zone and move it from the unloading zone once all of your belongings are moved to your room.

Please visit the Student Affairs office, located inside Andorfer Commons, if:

  • You are assigned to a building not shown on the map. It is here you will receive your keys and any additional instructions.
  • You are arriving on campus without a room assignment.
  • You are running late after 1 p.m but prior to 5 p.m. on Aug. 18.

If you will arrive outside of the scheduled hours but after the scheduled date and time and do not have prior approval to do so, you may check at the security desk in Andorfer Commons.

Returning Student Arrival Dates: Saturday, Aug. 19

If you are a returning domestic student or a returning international student, you should move in on Saturday or Sunday, unless you have permission prior to arriving. Prior permission is typically granted if you have a specific university function such as athletic preseason training or if you are an orientation leaders. Returning students may check in at Student Affairs in the Andorfer Commons between 10:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. Students arriving outside of the scheduled hours may check with the security desk in Andorfer commons if it is after the schedule date and time but be prepared to seek alternate housing temporarily if it is before the scheduled date and time without prior approval.

There will be a Warrior Family Association Parent Reception on Friday, Aug. 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., in the Abbott Welcome Center. Stop by for a chance to meet President Einolf and his wife, Maria, with light refreshments to be served.
