Programmable Logic Controllers, Certificate
Talwar College of Engineering and Computer SciencesGain a high-demand skill set for automated manufacturing environments
Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are computers that control manufacturing processes, such as assembly lines, machines and robotic devices. As more companies move to use PLCs to automate production, the need for trained personnel to design, program, operate, service and maintain these devices has become crucial. That’s where Indiana Tech’s undergraduate certificate in PLCs comes in. This eight-course program provides a comprehensive training in the prototyping process, simulation of circuits, mimicking and prototyping an industrial plant and measuring and testing a completed prototype. It will prepare students for a successful career as a PLC, electrical or electronic technician.
Courses in the program will focus on the analysis, building, and testing of circuits as well as connecting and programming PLCs. The program engages students in classes and laboratory settings with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on applications. When completed, students will be familiar with electronic circuits and digital systems, and be able to test and debug prototypes/programs built from design specifications.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the undergraduate certificate in programmable logic controllers, students will be prepared to:
- Demonstrate the scientific, engineering, and technical skill necessary to pursue a career as an electrical, electronic, or PLC technician.
- Apply techniques in building, testing, operation, maintenance, and programming of electronic and PLC systems.
Career Benefits
Earning an Indiana Tech certificate is an affordable, time-efficient way to boost your skills and your career prospects:
- Increase your hiring and earnings potential.
- Enhance your skills.
- Increase your job and career security.
- Expand your professional network.
- Earn significant credits that can be applied to pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree.
