Warrior Men and Women Repeat as National Outdoor Champs

The Warrior men’s and women’s track and field teams both repeated as NAIA National Champions, winning the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday in Gulf Shores, Ala.

The men tallied 105 points to stave off Wayland Baptist (Texas) by 12 points. On the women’s side, the Warriors needed a win in the 4×400 meter relay to defeat Oklahoma Baptist, 102-101.

In addition to winning the 4×400 meter relay, the women also won the 4×100 meter relay. Zalika Dixon won an individual title in the 400 meter hurdles.

The men’s team had four individual national champions, highlighted by a photo finish victory in the 100 meter dash by Dontaey Paige, winning the event by .004 seconds. Deshawn Marshall won the 400 meter dash; Robert Rose took the 400 meter hurdles title, his first career individual title; and the 4×800 meter relay team also recorded a photo finish win.

Head coach Doug Edgar was named men’s and women’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
