Army ROTC

What is ROTC?

Founded in 1916, ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. It’s a college program offered at over 1,700 colleges and universities across the United States that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Military.

What is Military Science?

Military science is a college elective that consists of both academic classes and hands-on training. The program allows you to earn a commission straight out of college as a second lieutenant in the active Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard.

What is Your Obligation?

You can serve full time in the Army for three years (four years for scholarship winners). Cadets may choose to serve part time in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a career.

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

The Simultaneous Membership Program allows you to attend Army ROTC and serve in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard at the same time. You can earn Reserve/Guard pay and benefits in addition to your Army ROTC allowances.

Post-ROTC Careers

After Army ROTC, you will have what it takes to balance working with both civilians and enlisted personnel, while instilling confidence as an officer, a leader, a trainer and a mentor.

Potential Financial Aid

Through Army ROTC, you can apply for and may qualify to receive one of the following scholarships:

  • 100 percent college tuition
  • $5,000 tuition/room and board scholarship

Minimum Requirements for Entry

  • Cumulative 2.0 GPA
  • 3.0 GPA in military science
  • Class and lab attendance
  • Pass Army physical fitness test

How You Can Attend the ROTC Program

Indiana Tech Army ROTC is a part of the Northeast Indiana Army ROTC. We are a part of an agreement with Purdue University Fort Wayne, where both academic and hands-on training are conducted at the Dolnick Learning Center on the Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.

If you meet minimum requirements for entry, your first step is taking an Army ROTC basic elective course. If you have at least two or more years remaining toward your undergraduate degree, but not enough time to complete the basic course, you can enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course by completing the Leader’s Training Course in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
