Diversity Vanguard Award

In January 2020, Indiana Tech will be hosting its 2nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast. This year’s theme, Sustaining a Spirit of Hope, emphasizes the value of perseverance in the journey to transformative change.

In an effort to recognize those who have impacted positive change within our campus community and the region, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion has implemented two new awards which will be presented to an internal individual and a community partner. The Diversity Vanguard Award was created to celebrate individuals, departments and external organizations advancing initiatives which support diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion at Indiana Tech. The award recipient must prove themselves an action taker in the area of inclusion and community support, as well as demonstrate a sensitivity to the unique needs and interests of marginalized populations.

The first two awards go to Dr. Susan McGrade, Indiana Tech professor of English, and Donnevin Wolfe of Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Dr. McGrade has served the Indiana Tech community through her prioritization of diversity within her role, as well as her initiative in creating supportive spaces for diverse students. She has served as a mentor to many students throughout her time at Tech, as well as an advisor to several student organizations and faculty developments.

Wolfe has demonstrated collaboration, initiation and dedication to advancing Indiana Tech’s mission in diversity and inclusion. He has worked with Indiana Tech’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion to create opportunities for Tech students to serve within the Fort Wayne community.
